A Legacy Begins (1965)

In Sessenheim, France, Martin Michaeli founded MEPHISTO with one mission — to create the world’s most comfortable footwear. Inspired by artisanal shoemaking and driven by innovation, he set a standard that would define the brand for generations.

Forging a Home in Sarrebourg (1966–1969)

When his first workshop closed, Michaeli relocated to Sarrebourg, where a new 1,500 m² factory equipped with advanced assembly lines became the brand’s creative hub.

Timeless Modernity (1970s–1980s)

MEPHISTO introduced iconic designs: Raglers (1972) with revolutionary latex soles, Trampolins (1978) with energy-return heels, Trekking Boots (1979) for outdoor comfort, and the Runoff line (1984) for the fitness boom. Goodyear-welted models added luxury and durability.

Global Footprint (1990s)

With the slogan “The World’s Finest Footwear,” MEPHISTO expanded to Europe, Japan, and the U.S. A new Portuguese factory in 1991 boosted production to over 11,000 pairs daily. Michaeli’s children, Stéphanie and Marc, continued the legacy.

Innovations for Every Step (2000s)

AIR-BAG Technology (2005) and SOFT-AIR Technology (2006) elevated comfort standards. New brands followed: Mobils (1998) for maximum comfort and wider fits, Allrounder (2002) for sporty outdoor styles, and Sano (2008) for natural foot motion.

Fifty Years On (2015–Today)

In 2015, MEPHISTO celebrated 50 years of excellence. Celebrities like Cate Blanchett, Tom Cruise, and Arnold Schwarzenegger have praised the brand’s quality and comfort.
