DownloadStockholm Fashion District Celebrates 10 Years – A Growth Engine for the Fashion Industry
From 2–6 February, the fashion industry gathers at Stockholm Fashion District for Fashion Week Trade – the business meeting place where more than 700 brands present their collections to buyers and press. Expectations for this year’s event are high, with fully booked exhibition halls and showroom buildings, strong international interest, and the fashion show Beckmans Fashion Collaboration 2026, where students interpret five established Swedish brands: Brixtol Textiles, HJRT, Holebrook, House of Dagmar, and Stylein. This year’s opening address will be delivered by Sweden’s Minister for Culture, Parisa Liljestrand.
This year’s Fashion Week Trade coincides with Stockholm Fashion District, celebrating its tenth anniversary. Over the past decade, the district has grown into a strong growth engine driving trade, knowledge exchange, and business development, and has become Sweden’s leading marketplace for the fashion, footwear, and textile industries. It serves as a central hub for an extensive national and international business network of brands, designers, buyers, agents, distributors, schools, innovation companies, and industry organisations.
The Swedish fashion industry is an established part of Sweden’s economy, with an annual turnover of approximately SEK 178 billion. At the same time, fashion exports amount to around SEK 41 billion per year, having doubled since 2016. In total, the Swedish fashion industry employs 44,000 people, according to Svenskt Mode 2025.
“The many companies within Stockholm Fashion District contribute significantly to growth in the Swedish fashion industry. The figures show that Fashion Week Trade is crucial for this growth,” says Helena Waker, CEO of Stockholm Fashion District and Trade Partners Sweden. She continues:
“We connect the industry both nationally and internationally, strengthen trade relationships, and position Sweden as a global frontrunner in innovative and sustainable fashion. Together, we have created a highly sought-after meeting place for trade and development, as well as a large and vibrant industry community.”
As digitalisation and AI transform business models, the second-hand market continues to grow, and new EU regulations are introduced, the need for collaboration and joint development is increasing.
“The fashion industry is at its strongest when we act together – across company boundaries and between commerce, creativity, and technology. The past ten years show what is possible. Now we are building the next decade, and it is incredibly exciting,” concludes Helena Waker.
