Stockholm strengthens its position as the Nordic marketplace for fashion

– Minister for trade, Ukrainian fashion and tech conference to visit Fashion Week Trade at Stockholm Fashion District

From 10 to 14 August, more than 700 Swedish and international brands, thousands of buyers and decision-makers gather at Stockholm Fashion District in Nacka Strand. This year’s Fashion Week Trade welcomes Ukrainian fashion companies, alongside the Swedish and international fashion brands presenting their collections. A conference on AI and new business models is also held during the week.

“Sweden is a fashion nation with real weight. We export fashion across the world, and at the same time a growing number of international players are choosing Stockholm as their gateway to the Nordic market. Fashion Week Trade creates business by bringing brands, buyers, distributors and decision-makers together on a shared trading platform. This is where relationships turn into concrete deals, partnerships and export opportunities,” says Helena Waker, CEO of Trade Partners Sweden and Stockholm Fashion District.

Benjamin Dousa, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, visits the business meeting place during the week as part of the government’s work on the cultural and creative industries. Fashion is a significant economic engine in Sweden. According to the report Svenskt Mode 2025, the industry turns over approximately SEK 178 billion a year and employs 41,000 people. Fashion exports amount to SEK 41 billion.

For the first time, a selection of Ukrainian fashion companies takes part, creating new business contacts and showcasing Ukraine’s fashion industry. The initiative demonstrates how trade can contribute to resilience, reconstruction and international cooperation.

Timberland and Ilse Jacobsen are also opening permanent showrooms in the district. During Fashion Week Trade they exhibit alongside Swedish fashion and footwear brands such as Björn Borg, GANT, Jennifer Blom and Rock and Blue, all meeting buyers from retailers, department stores and e-commerce platforms.

The week also features the Transformation Conference, organised by Scandinavian Mind, where over 150 decision-makers from the fashion and tech sectors meet to discuss AI, digitalisation, circular solutions and new business models.

“For the fashion industry it’s about turning AI, digitalisation and circular solutions into real business. The Swedish fashion industry can and wants to make this transition, but it requires fair conditions, coordinated policy and free trade on a level playing field. That is how we strengthen the industry’s long-term competitiveness,” says Helena Waker.

Fashion Week Trade takes place at Stockholm Fashion District, comprising Stockholm Showroom, Stockholm Shoe House and the two halls of Nacka Strandsmässan – a total of 21,000 square metres.
