Store of the Month September 2024: Sigma Fashion

Located on the corner of Köpmangatan and Hantverkargatan, Sigma Fashion has been part of the city’s shopping culture since it opened on 16 October 1966. Originally a pure accessories store, the store has grown and developed over the years into a fashion store with a wide range of women’s clothing and accessories.

In 2013, Sigmahuset transformed and became a commercial building, and since then the store has had its entrance facing the pedestrian street. Eva Eriksson, who started working in the shop in July 1977, has been running the shop on her own since 1997 after the tragic death of her husband, who owned the shop from the start. It was he who started the Sigma department store in 1966.

“It’s not a job, it has become a way of life since the day I started in 1977,” says Eva.

Would you like to tell us about your range of products in the shop?

We currently offer a wide range of women’s clothing, from tops, trousers, and dresses to outerwear, hats, caps, and scarves. The store’s focus on accessories has never gone away, and it’s something that my team and I are keen to maintain. In addition, there is a solid range of nightwear and swimwear, which is appreciated by customers.

We cater mainly to women aged 35 and over, but we also sell headwear, hats, and gloves for men. Our goal is to meet our customers‘ needs with high-quality garments and accessories for all occasions,’ explains Eva.

Why do you think you succeed in what you do?

‘It’s mainly because of our personalised service, for us it’s important that the customer feels seen and welcome. The store has four employees, and we do our utmost to help customers find the right garment. This can be anything from finding the perfect trousers to dressing the customer from head to toe. We also organise many customer evenings which are much appreciated by our lovely customers.

How is your relationship with your suppliers?

We have worked with most of our suppliers for several years, and this close cooperation helps us to offer our customers the best range. But we also have some new suppliers, which is great because we now have a larger customer base than before. I’m also positive about the future because we’re constantly developing the store with a wider range and thus developing our target group.

This job has become a part of Eva’s life and she believes that it is the strong passion that drives her and the store forward. With these words, Eva looks forward to continuing to run Sigma Fashion and welcoming both old and new customers to her store, just as she has done for so many years.
