SWEDISH FASHION DESIGNERS CREATE EXHIBITION TOGETHER WITH THE GOTHENBURG ART MUSEUM

Göteborgs Konstmuseum, together with four Swedish fashion designers, is creating an exhibition where art is reflected in its relationship to fashion. In the exhibition called Dialoger. Mode bortom det bärbara, Sandra Backlund, Martin Bergström, Helena Hörstedt and Diana Orving present new work that engage in dialogue with historical artists.

Already in ancient sculptures and creations we see different types of, for example, pleated costumes and throughout history we can see portraits and paintings with extravagant textiles and patterns. Art and fashion are linked in several ways, both in the present but also historically.

Fashion can be considered superficial, but if we look back at history, fashion and art have a strong connection. Both are constantly expanding and it is becoming increasingly difficult to separate them. Both concepts reflect the present in different ways and they provide an understanding of ideals and expressions that are reflected in the present.

The exhibition opens on 12 May 2023 and can be seen until 7 January 2024.
