Press release 25.01.29: Fashion Week Trade kicks off with 20% growth and a fully booked fashion fair
A unique meeting place and a hub for both national and international collaborations – this is where the fashion industry gathers in Stockholm.
Stockholm Fashion District, Sweden’s business meeting place for trade in fashion, shoes, and accessories, continues to grow and strengthen its position both nationally and internationally. Twice a year, Fashion Week Trade is held in the district, and next week, from February 3–7, the doors will open for a new season. This time, the event showcases an impressive growth in wholesale trade, with the number of participating brands increasing by 20% compared to the previous year.
“The interest has been high with a fully booked fair and showrooms. This confirms the strong need for physical meeting places where the industry can gather, do business, and establish important connections in Sweden.” says Helena Waker, CEO of Stockholm Fashion District.
Growth is primarily driven by the “mid-high market” segment where larger agencies with well-established brands show particularly strong interest. Women’s fashion and shoes continues to dominate, the men’s segment has also expanded this season. A positive development is also the addition of jewellery from Nordic manufacturers.
Stockholm Fashion District, with its goal to “Empower Sustainable Trade,” actively works to develop long-term and sustainable business relationships both nationally and internationally. Stockholm Fashion District operates a unique business area with over twenty events and seminars per year, and is open 365 days a year, creating a continuous meeting place for the industry. The increasing number of brands, exhibiting with production in Europe, contributes positively from a sustainability perspective, through shorter transport distances and better insight into production. Swedish and Nordic buyers’ ability to trade through local agencies, instead of making purchasing trips abroad, strengthens Sweden’s position as both a sustainable trading nation and a significant fashion destination.
A contributing factor to this positive development is Trade Partners Sweden’s extensive network of strategic collaborations. As the founder of Stockholm Fashion District, the organization has built strong partnerships across the industry. During 2024, a new partnership was established with the European Fashion Alliance, which Stockholm Fashion District has joined as Sweden’s representative.
“The European Fashion Alliance is a very important network for us, where together with over 25 leading fashion organisations from across Europe, we can work to strengthen our industry’s competitiveness. Through the alliance, we jointly drive issues around sustainability, innovation, and cross-border collaborations that are crucial for the industry’s future,” says Helena Waker.
During Fashion Week Trade, the established collaboration with the Italian footwear industry continues, with brands from the Italian Association of Footwear Manufacturers participating as guest exhibitors at the fair 4-6 February.
On the 4th of February, Stockholm Fashion District is hosting a press breakfast during Fashion Week Trade to share important industry news. Contact Malin Wasström at malin@tradepartners.se if you wish to attend.
